Euro Cup 2021, Crowdfunding and Energy Efficiency: What’s the Connection? Join us on 15 June 2021

by Joan Segura on 09.06.2021

The 2021 Euro Cup is finally about to kick-off! Football supporters all over Europe are getting ready to cheer for their national team, have a good time, and enjoy football competition at its finest, whether they are dreaming of France or Italy to be crowned European champions, or instead they wish for a smaller nation like Ireland to slay the European giants and win it all.

However, sometimes football can also go beyond sport, and on the eve of this amazing sporting competition we want to highlight the important role that crowdfunding can have in helping football in general, and European football clubs in particular in raising public awareness for the topic of the energy transition.

Sports buildings are among the main consumers of energy in Europe, with an estimated 229-448 kWh of energy used annually per square meter of space. In order to significantly reduce the CO2 produced by this intensive use and unlock sports building Energy Efficiency savings, EUROCROWD, together with the GREENFOOT project and support from UEFA, is working to promote crowdfunding as an innovative engagement and financing tool to support football fans and clubs alike to get involved in CSR initiatives and take an active part in the energy transition through the demonstration of energy efficiency projects in the context of football buildings and stadiums.

We are excited to share insights in a webinar aimed mostly at crowdfunding professionals interested in building their network, opening up the sports market to crowdfunding, and shaping the direction of the crowdfunding dialogue at the European level. Our Senior Project Manager Andrea Bogi will join our Member Carlo Allevi of WeAreStarting and others for the discussion.

The GREENFOOT project is part of EUROCROWD ongoing effort to promote the role of crowdfunding for a sustainable energy transition, and its central goal is to support and foster fans involvement by packaging individual participation and financing of the energy transition in a fun, friendly, and well-known context that is European professional football. To achieve this objective, EUROCROWD is proud to be joining its GREENFOOT partners in bringing together professional football clubs and crowdfunding platforms all over Europe to discuss how crowdfunding can help European football reach its CSR goals while leading fans towards socially positive action. We do this through opportunities for networking, as well as events.

Football is an intriguing arena for crowdfunding platforms willing to share their own expertise and explore potential new projects, and we look forward to celebrating one of its most important events with an eye to leverage its immense popularity to crowdfund a more sustainable society.
