Steve Rogers is a deputy head of unit in the European Commission’s DG Research & Innovation, where he is helping lead a team responsible for SMEs, financial instruments and State aid. He is currently designing innovative R&I financing facilities based on angel investments and crowdfunding, and looking into how to better support scale-ups. He has worked in other parts of the Commission in the fields of enterprise policy, education and cultural policy, and the enlargement of the EU. He previously held positions in British Telecommunications plc (product innovation and development) and the International Energy Agency (economic assessment), and was founder and CEO of a publishing services company in London. He started his career as a science journalist after training as a marine biologist.
