Bruxelles, January 24, 2019 – In line with its mission of providing knowledge, resources, professional support and a forum to enable new cooperation activities in the crowdfunding sector, and within the framework of its 2019 activities, the European Crowdfunding Network announces the creation of the ECN-Italian Strategic Group (ECN-ISG).

The recent national regulatory development in Italy, together with the steady expansion of the market in the country, are in line with the ongoing work initiated by the release of the European Commission’s proposal of March 8th, 2018 on a regulation for European Crowdfunding Service Providers (ECSP) – currently under discussion in the European Council and European Parliament.

The publication of such proposal is a clear signal of the potential that crowdfunding has in providing an alternative source of funding for start-ups and SMEs. At the same time, the important aspect of harmonious development of the industry in a single European market remains strongly linked not only to the legal harmonization of national regimes, but also to a significant improvement in terms of professionality in the sector (platforms) and of knowledge of beneficiaries (investors and entrepreneurs), as well as in the dissemination and acquisition of a consolidated set of skills and competences related to the many different aspects of crowdfunding.

The ECN – ISG represents the natural evolution of the cooperation between the European Crowdfunding Network and relevant players in the Italian entrepreneurial ecosystem, and will be led by Unioncamere Lombardia, with the support of Aster Soc. Cons. p. A., Fondazione Fenice and Osborne Clarke.

In this perspective, the objective of the ECN-ISG Working Group is to bring together universities, public authorities, private foundations, and industry associations and provide them with knowledge, contacts and skills as to support the creation of a culture of crowdfunding in Italy. The Foreseen outcomes of the working group are:

  • The development and deployment of a standard certification for training and education on crowdfunding for professionals and investors;
  • The activation of Job Placement pilot initiatives with ECN Platform Members, as to provide industry players with highly qualified human resources;
  • The assessment of the feasibility of new guarantee instruments, co-financed by public authorities and other institutions

The 8th European Crowdfunding Convention will be held in cooperation with the ECN-ISG in October 2019 in Milan. For further information about ECN-ISG activities and how to join, please contact francesca.passeri@eurocrowd.org
