ECN elects new board and seperates supervision from execution

Lisbon, 25 June 2015. The European Crowdfunding Network, during the organisations General Assembly of Full Members on 25 June 2015 in Lisbon, the organisations appointed a new board of directors. The new governance makes a clearer separation between non executive board members and executive staff, strengthening the organisation.

ECN is the professional network promoting adequate transparency, (self) regulation and governance while offering a combined voice in policy discussion and public opinion building in Europe. Formally incorporated as an international not-for-profit organisation in Brussels, Belgium in 2013.

The 9 members of the board are representative of the market’s diversity, representing eight European countries and different types of crowdfunding, reward-based, lending and equity. Two of the nine board members have been re-elected, the other seven are newly appointed. The board members will guide the implementation of the strategy set by the General Assembly and help set the directions for the Network in close cooperation with the executive team, which will manage the networks operations. The outgoing Chairman, who did not stand for re-election in order to have a board representing only crowdfunding platforms, remains with the orgastion as Executive Director:

“As the ECN’s Executive Director, I am really pleased to see our organization maturing. I look forward to working with this new board of senior crowdfunding practitioners. Crowdfunding is at a turning point where it is becoming a force in European finance. At this point, if we want crowdfunding to thrive, we need to step up and promote professional standards.”

The newly appointed Chairman, Alex Raguet, wo served as Treasurer on the previous board, added:

“I am happy to see that crowdfunding gains wider recognition by all actors and proves to be a highly efficient financing financing tool for the European Economy. We will continue to work hard to enable more convergent legal practices that will allow platforms to scale and move across borders while also reinforcing transparency and trust.”

The European Crowdfunding Network is looking forward to its continues growth and professional activities representing the European crowdfunding sector, including donation-, reward-, equity- and debt-based crowdfunding models. ECN als just launched a revised Code of Conduct and a Charter of Crowdfunders’ Rights that will help increase transparency and professionalism in European crowdfunding.
